About
On November 8, 2004, Llyod Karmeier defeated Gorden Maag in their race for a seat on the Illinois Supreme Court. In the days and months that followed, Maag sued Karmeier’s supporters for defamation and Karmeier cast the deciding vote reversing more than $11 billion in civil judgments aganist two of his supporters.
Was this a hijacking of the American civil justice system or simply a case of a sore loser and a reviewing court doing its job? The answers to these questions, among others, have gone relatively unreported by the press. It is our goal to answer them.
